PRAYING FOR
BIBLICAL EXAMPLES

  1. Genesis 3:6a When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. Pray not to be deceived by Satan by things that look desirable but are against God’s instruction.
  2. Genesis 3:6b She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Pray to stand firm against those encouraging you into temptation and the temptation.
  3. Genesis 6: 22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
    Pray to follow God’s instructions even when what He is asking seems impossible or beyond your understanding.
  4. Genesis 16: 2 So Sarai said to Abram, “Now behold, the LORD has prevented me from bearing children. Please go in to my maid; perhaps I will obtain children through her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.
    Pray to wait for God’s timing and not be tempted to “help” speed God along with your own plans to meet your need and timeframe rather than God’s.
  5. Genesis 22:9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar on top of the wood.
    Pray for the faith and cooperation of Isaac to be bound and laid on the altar preparing for his death needing God to intervene to save his life.
  6. Genesis 22: 10-12 Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
    Pray for the willingness and courage to surrender all to God, even that which is most dear to you.
  7. Genesis 45:5 Now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.
    Pray that you can see God’s purpose and plan through any difficult circumstances, and you can have a forgiving heart for those who have wronged you.
  8. Exodus 1:17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live.
    Pray for courage to follow God’s direction even in the midst of strong opposition.
  9. Exodus 1:3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.
    Pray for love like Moses’s mother to give up the very one you love to keep them safe.
  10. Exodus 3:11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?”
    Share your honest feelings with God. Talk to Him about your concerns.
  11. Exodus 14:13 But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.”
    Pray to recognize the greatness of God that you can have confidence He will intervene even in the most impossible situations.
  12. Exodus 19:24 So Moses listened to his father-in-law and did all that he had said.
    Pray to have a willingness to listen to Godly counsel or the wisdom and courage to give Godly counsel.
  13. Exodus 32:1 Now when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people assembled about Aaron and said to him, “Come, make us a god who will go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”
    Pray to say “NO” to doubt that leads you into temptation.
  14. Leviticus 1:3 If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer it, a male without defect; he shall offer it at the doorway of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD.
    Thank the Lord that we are no longer bound by the law, but that Christ has paid all our sins with His blood if we accept Him as our Savior.
  15. Numbers 14:2 All the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness!”
    Pray to have the joy of the Lord and be free of grumbling.
  16. Numbers 22:31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand; and he bowed all the way to the ground.
    Pray to not be blind and deaf to God and His attempt to communicate with you.
  17. Joshua 1:9b “Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Pray for strength, courage and to put off fear of the things God is asking you to do.
    Pray to have peace knowing God is always with us.
  18. Matthew 1:23-24 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife,”
    Pray to be responsive to God’s voice even if it doesn’t make complete sense to you or mean your circumstances may be difficult.
  19. Matthew 2:11 After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
    Pray for a worshipful heart.
  20. Matthew 4:19-20 And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
    Pray to put aside distractions and immediately respond when God speaks to you.
  21. Matthew 8:2-3 And a leper came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
    Pray to approach God for your needs with boldness, belief and alignment with His will.
  22. Matthew 8:26 He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm.
    Pray to release fear and trust God’s provision, protection and timing.
  23. Matthew 14:3-4 For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. For John had been saying to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
    Pray for boldness to speak truth even if there are unpleasant consequences.
  24. Matthew 14: 28-29 Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
    Pray for courage to step out and take risks to know God in a deeper way.
  25. Matthew 14:30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”
    Pray to keep your focus on Jesus and not get lost in the distractions of this world.
  26. Matthew 15:1-2 Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, “Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”
    Pray to be free from any critical, discouraging spirit and embrace a spirit of encouragement and unity.
  27. Matthew 19:21-22 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven’ and come, follow me.” But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.
    Pray that the things of this world do not become more important than your relationship with the Lord.
  28. Matthew 26:43 Again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
    Pray for God to sustain you through what you need to be a support and encouragement to someone who is hurting and going through difficulty.
  29. Matthew 26:74 Then he began to curse and swear, “I do not know the man!” And immediately a rooster crowed.
    Pray to stand firm for the Lord in times of risk/actual persecution.
  30. Matthew 27:14 And He did not answer him with regard to even a single charge, so the governor was quite amazed.
    Pray for wisdom when to speak and when to be silent.
