PRAYING THROUGH
PREPARATION
- Isaiah 53:5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
THANK Jesus for taking your place and bearing the punishment you deserved.
- Isaiah 53:6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.
CONFESS your tendency to wander and THANK God for placing your sin on Christ.
- Isaiah 53:10 But the Lord was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, and the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand.
REFLECT on the depth of the Father’s love in offering His Son for you.
- Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, humble, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
WELCOME Jesus as your humble King and PREPARE your heart for His reign.
- Psalm 22:1 My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning.
THANK Jesus for entering the depths of abandonment so you would never be forsaken.
- Psalm 22:16 For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.
MEDITATE on the suffering Christ endured for your salvation.
- Psalm 22:18 They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.
REMEMBER that even the smallest details of Jesus’ suffering fulfilled God’s plan.
- Matthew 20:28 Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
ASK God to shape your heart into one that serves like Jesus.
- John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’
WORSHIP Jesus as the Lamb who takes away your sin.
- John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
THANK God for His immeasurable love and the gift of eternal life.
- John 10:11 I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
REST in the care of the Shepherd who willingly laid down His life for you.
- John 12:23-24 And Jesus answered them, saying, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.’
ASK God to help you embrace surrender so His life can bear fruit in you.
- Luke 22:19 And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’
REMEMBER Jesus’ sacrifice with gratitude and renewed devotion.
- Luke 22:42 Saying, ‘Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.’
SURRENDER your will to the Father as Jesus did.
- Mark 14:34 And He said to them, ‘My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch.’
ASK God to help you watch and pray with a heart sensitive to His presence.
- Matthew 26:56a But all this has taken place to fulfill the Scriptures of the prophets.
PRAISE God for His faithfulness in fulfilling every promise.
- John 18:37 Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king? Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.
ASK Jesus to anchor your heart in His truth as you prepare for Easter.
- John 19:30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.
REST in the finished work of Christ—nothing can be added to His salvation.
- Matthew 27:51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.
THANK God that through Jesus you now have full access to Him.
- Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
REFLECT on the depth of God’s love shown at the cross.
- Romans 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
ASK God to help you walk in the new life Christ purchased for you.
- Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
THANK God for freedom from condemnation through Christ’s sacrifice.
- Corinthians 1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
PRAY that the power of the cross would shape your thinking and living.
- 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
REJOYCE in the gospel—Christ died, was buried, and rose again for you.
- 1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.
THANK God for the hope of resurrection secured by Christ.
- Philippians 2:8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
ASK God to cultivate humility and obedience like Christ’s in your heart.
- Colossians 1:20a And through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
PRAISE Jesus for making peace between you and God through His blood.
- Colossians 2:14 Having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
THANK God that your debt has been fully canceled at the cross.
- Hebrews 9:12 And not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
WORSHIP Jesus for securing eternal redemption through His own blood.
- Hebrews 12:2 Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
FIX your eyes on Jesus and ASK for endurance as you follow Him.
- saiah 50:6 I gave My back to those who strike Me, And My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting.
REFLECT on the willing submission of Jesus to shame and suffering for your redemption.
